Unit 1 - Mobile Phones and Smart Phones

Welcome to Digital Media. This is the first Unit of the module. Before you begin the Unit we must create a new word document and answer these questions;  What is a smart phone? Do you have one? when did you get your first phone? What do you hope to learn in Unit 1.


Unit 1 Overview
  • Overview and comparison of Mobile Phones and Smart Phones.
  • How to make a call, send and forward a text.
  • How to take a picture, a video and record a voice memo.
  • Sharing content.
  • Setting up and leaving voice-mails.
We are also going to set up a Google account. 
This means you'll have an e-mail, a blog and access to YouTube.

Finally, Unit 1 has an activity to complete as part of your portfolio. Using an iPhone.

Well done, you've completed Unit 1! Please create a blog entry which includes what we covered in the Unit. What did you like? What didn't you like. Would you like to learn more about anything in Unit 1?



Unit 2 - Using A Digital Camera

First things first... create a new blog post, I hope your getting used to it, has to be done before and after each Unit. In the blog write about your experience taking pictures and using a camera. If you have any experience editing or arranging photos, please include it in your blog. What do you hope to learn from Unit 2?


Unit 2 Overview
  • Overview of  a Digital Camera.
  • How to use the automatic and semi-automatic settings.
  • How to look after your Camera.
  • Overview of using a computer to enhance photos.
  • How to transfer photos to your computer.
  • How to add fun effects to your photo. (PhotoFunia)
  • How to make a photo comic strip(Comic Life) or how to make a stop motion video.
  • How to make a photo slideshow. (Microsoft Photo Story)



Unit 2 is complete. Create a blog. In the blog, include what you've learned from Unit. What you did well with and what you found difficult. Good luck with Unit 3.

Unit 3 - Digital Video

Alright, Unit 3! Before you begin, please create a blog. The blog should include your previous experience with video cameras, video recording and editing, if any. What do you hope to learn during Unit 3.

Unit 3 Overview 

  • How to shoot good video.
  • Overview of the manual, auto and AE settings of a camera.
  • How to transfer video to a computer. (Windows MovieMaker)
  • Overview of video enhancement, using a computer.
  • Adding Scene transitions and animated  titles.
  • Creating a YouTube account.
  • How to watch, rate and subscribe to videos using YouTube.



BOOM!
Unit 3 done. Create a blog and talk about what you learned in Unit 3. Include what went well and what didn't.

Unit 4 - Digital Audio

Before starting Unit 4. Please write a blog which includes what you know about "Digital Audio". Do you have any experience with recording sound or Podcasts? Also include what you hope to learn from Unit 4.


Unit 4 Overview

  • Introduction to podcasts.
  • Overview of podcast production.
  • How to record good quality podcasts.
  • How to record a podcast using a handheld digital recording device.
  • How to record a podcast using a computer, microphone and Audacity software.
  • How to create your own music, using an online music creation tool. 


That concludes Unit 4. Please create a blog outlining what you've learned from the the Unit. Include the parts you understood and did well in but also include the parts that you didn't do well in, if any.

Unit 5 - Digital Music and Digital Music Player


Hi, this is Unit 5... before you start, please create a blog. Do you own an iPod. Do you know anything about Digital Music? Do you know anything about Music players? Have you ever used iTunes? What you hope to learn from Unit 5.

Unit 5 Overview

  • Introduction/overview of iTunes. (Download & tutorials)
  • How to import music from a CD.
  • How to convert music file formats.
  • How to create a playlist.
  • How to view and edit song information.
  • How to sync music between your PC and iPod.
  • How to backup your iPod.
  • How to use iTunes to support your learning.




Unit 5 is complete. As always please write a blog detailing your experience with Unit 5. What did you like? What did you learn?

Unit 6 - Copyright & Security


Ok, welcome to Unit 6. Before we begin, please read the overview of the Unit below. Then make a new post in your Blog - Learner Journal (remember, capital letters!!). 

 Do you know what a computer virus is? Can you name any anti-virus software? What is copyright? 
Finally write about what you expect to learn in Unit 6.

   Unit 6 Overview

  • Understanding viruses and malicious software.
  • How to avoid being scammed.
  • Computer Security..
  • Choosing a password and keeping it secure.
  • Data Protection and Privacy.
          
  • Introduction to copyright.
  • How to apply copyright to your work and how to create a copyright statement.
  • How to behave on the internet.
  • How to use emoticons to help people understand what you're saying.

After completing the Unit, please make a new post which outlines your experience with this Unit. What did you like? What you didn't like? Is there anything you didn't understand? Did you learn everything you wanted to learn? :D

Unit 7 - Internet and Online Social Networking

First, come in to Unit 7, the last Unit in the Digital Media Programme. To start, please write a blog which outlines your previous experience and knowledge of the internet and social networking.


Also outline what you hope to learn from Unit 7.

  • How to use a search engine.
  • How to search the internet using key words.
  • How to use the internet to solve your own problems.
  • How to set up an e-mail.
  • Creating a small "how to" guide.

  • How to create a social networking site Facebook.
  • How to use the Facebook settings to protect your  privacy.
  • How to navigate the Facebook homepage.
  • How to share photos, videos, blogs, news items and other content using Facebook.




Now you have completed Unit 7, create a blog outlining what you have learned. Please include the areas you enjoyed and understood as well as the areas you found difficult.
